MEMIT is limited to directional (subject, relation, object) factual relations and does not handle symmetric relations, spatial reasoning, temporal knowledge, or procedural knowledge.

Summary

MEMIT can only correct simple one-way facts of the form "X is related to Y" and cannot edit more complex kinds of understanding, such as relationships that work both ways, where things are located, when things happened, or how to do something. This means model edits via this method leave large swaths of a model's knowledge untouched, so any system relying on it for corrections will have a narrow and predictable failure surface.
